A WORD FROM SE AT the beginning of my secretaryship in the Education Society, 1 wish to say a word to our entire fellowship. Our denomination has an honorable record in the establishment and maintenance of schools of all ranks. We have stood for Christiau education. Character and social service are central aims of education, and Christianity is the most potent factor in attaining these ends. The need for the thoroughly Christian school, the school which not only trains men in special subjects but which, "fits them for complete living," is not less but greater now than in the past. My firm conviction that Christianity has a necessary place in any adequate education is what has induced me to undertake this work. Our Education Society should have a growing place and influence in our denominational life. There may not be more work than formerly in planting and assisting new schools, but there are still vast western areas in which such work must be done. It is a fair question whether State Conferences and the Education Society should not be conferred with in the planting of additional schools, which expect to look to the denomination for support. There is growing opportunity for work in connection with student life in schools related to the denomination and in State schools. The problem of training an adequate leadership for our foreign RETARY SHELDON speaking churches should have the support and co-operation of this Society in seeking a more adequate solution.
